Please join us for an encore screening of READY GIRL and an update on the feature film from which it is excerpted MOVE WHEN THE SPIRIT SAYS MOVE.

PhotoSynthesis Productions and the Dorothy Cotton Institute are thrilled to report that we have received the significant grant money we need to complete production of our feature length documentary film about the life and legacy of Dorothy Cotton - MOVE WHEN THE SPIRIT SAYS MOVE.  We are now able to gather interviews and tell Dorothy's life story as an inspiration for our society to understand and act on the power of full citizenship.  

Our short film THERE'S YOUR READY GIRL was an important factor in gaining this recognition and funding.

Dorothy Cotton was a bold, highly effective and important civil rights leader, the only woman on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Executive Staff. In celebration of Black Women’s History Month, The History Center is sponsoring a screening of the award-winning short film THERE’S YOUR READY GIRL, which was produced during the pandemic with footage from the feature-length documentary currently production MOVE WHEN THE SPIRIT SAYS MOVE, about Dorothy’s life and legacy. The screening of the 11-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion including filmmakers Deborah C. Hoard and Ry Ferro, together with Laura Branca of the Dorothy Cotton Institute and Eric Acree, Director of Cornell's Africana Library.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Only 30 people will be permitted to attend this screening in person due to the space limitations in the room. Masks must be worn covering nose and mouth for the full length of the program. Learn more at thehistorycenter.net/health
